Please Turn to Page 318 in Your Dream Dictionary

I had one of those dreams last night that was so vivid and emotionally consuming for me that I can still picture it at noon. There's no doubt in my mind just what issues my brain was working through. They were pretty much spraypainted all over my subconsious mind.

The funny thing is that I woke this morning with a new sense of hope, something I haven't felt in a long time. I don't know if it was God or just my own mind reassuring me that everything is okay, but I KNOW that it will all be okay. In fact, one part of the dream was very specific about certain issues that have bothered me lately.

I know I'm not the only person who thinks about dreams and what they may or may not mean. A quick internet search for "dream meaning" proves this. Personally, I believe that dreams are a venue for our brains to play around with images, ideas, and emotions that we might normally filter out during the day. That said, I also believe they are place where God, our bodies, and our minds can speak to us. After all, we're pretty much a captive audience. I'm curious what others think about dreams.

1. Why do you think we have dreams?
2. How do you know which dreams have an applicable meaning and which are just nonsense?
3. Do even nonsense dreams have a meaning?

I used to be really into dream interpretation....not that that's very surprising :)
I pretty much agree with you - they're a place for our minds to work out the things that we may not catch during the day or the things we don't take time to understand. I think that even nonsense dreams usually contain elements that make complete sense, if you think about them hard enough. My mom has lots of them, but usually, when you write it down or tell it to somebody, you will find that you use a phrase that jumps out at you and you go..."Oh! That's what that's all about!"
I also believe that God uses our dreams to speak to us - but pretty rarely.
Usually, I find the most meaning in the dreams that are the most vivid. Vivid colors, storylines or images that I just can't let go of....

I find those vivid colors and whatnot haunting sometimes. The whole thing is fascinating to me, but that probably stems from my fascination with the human brain. Its abilities and lack thereof are just so interesting, don't you think? I mean, how on earth does it come up with something like purple elephants dancing on top of the Sphinx?

Yeah - maybe that's the basic thing we have in common:) I find the brain fascinating too - the ways that people think and make decisions....and yeah, purple elephants on the Sphinx is pretty outrageous! My mom's dreams are absolutely astounding....she dreamed she was drowning in a chocolate milkshake once and had to drink the whole thing to save herself :) I remember a dream when I was pregnant with Emma where the sky was very pink - there was a storm brewing - and I think it was even before I knew she was a girl....I mean, it's really cool to consider all the stuff that goes on in there that we aren't aware of.

Pardon the Interruption

It's 10:00. My race clothes are laying across the top of the dog crate. I've already consumed my all-natural sleep aid. The alarm is set for 4:45 in the morning. I should be sleeping, but my mind is spinning at an unnatural rate. Remember this poem ? The subject of that poem married just a few weeks ago, and I just finished looking through his wedding photos. It's a strange feeling. Not one of loss. Or Regret. Or even wistfulness. I'm thoroughly happy for both of them in a way that will seriously not make sense to most of the people I know. I suppose there will always be an odd sense of knowing in a situation like this. I know the feel of those lips. I've seen that look in his eyes. What I felt for him was real and pure and drives the feeling of satisfaction that is currently overwhelming me. I love knowing that he's in love--even if it's not with me. I even saved my favorite photo to my computer because the image stirred something in me that needs to be sti...

TMI and Tidal Waves

As usual, it's been a busy week around these parts, and none of my activities this week involved running. If my grandmother could hear at the moment and complete a sentence without hacking up a lung, she'd ask me what's wrong. I'd have to confess that my eczema has flared up in this oh-so-cold-there's-ice-on-my-car south Florida weather, and my skin is so itchy that I have bruises up and down my limbs from all the scratching I've been doing. There are some days I'm relieved to know men with calloused hands. (Before you take that last comment too seriously, remind yourself that I am writing this at 9:30 on a Friday night.) Anyway... I met up for coffee with someone last night who proved to stoke my creative juices. I'll spare you the details of the conversation, but I did have to stop him mid sentence to point out that that particular conversation will most definitely become part of "La Isla Encontrada." Fortunately, he agreed to it, and I fully...

Welcome 2010

This has been an interesting beginning to the new year. The evening began with a beer and air hockey challenge, which I handily lost. This was followed with some extreme go cart racing and more beer, a dinner that consisted of leftovers from one of my favorite South Carolina restaurants and homemade fried zucchini. And more beer. I saw "The Hangover" for the fourth time and laughed like an idiot. After the ball dropped in Times Square, I saw pieces of "Public Enemy" and finally crawled into bed around 2:00 a.m. and stayed there until 11:00 this morning. I spent today playing with a dog, watching college football, and hanging out with one of my current favorite people. I don't do the whole new year resolution thing. However, I do believe in taking a look at the lessons I've learned and the experiences that have unfolded for me in the previous year. Anyone who reads this blog can already figure out that my divorce, running, and dating again have greatly influe...
